Perfect Game

Mark Buehrie of the Chicago White Sox
recently pitched a perfect game.
Only the 18th in the history Major League Baseball.
It made me start thinking about my work space right now. It's trashed.
There are little bits of paper and glue everywhere.
I haven't cleaned up because I feel like i've been on a
roll good ideas amongst all of the chaos.
I don't want to jinx the mojo.

It doesn't actually look that bad in this photo but this is my dining table where the family eats.
Plus this is only really three days of work shtuff.
Does anybody else do this besides me?
Have lucky paint water that is beyond old?
I would like to know if you do anything for the perfect game,
mainly so I don't feel so weird.

P.S. THE rule about a perfect game is your not supposed to talk about the perfect game,
so hopefully this doesn't jinx the rule.
Apparently, Buehrie was talking about it in the
dugout in like the sixth inning.

The Kids Are Alright at Black Maria Gallery

I am showing with "The Kids Are Alright" showcase again,
this time at the Black Maria Gallery.
The show starts on Saturday July 18th at 7:30P.M.

We were asked to make two black and white pieces
which I thought could be a fun limitation with the paper cuts.
My two pieces can go together or stand alone.
The one on the left is called "Happy Campers."
The one on the right is called "Not So Happy Campers."
I found it odd how hard it was to find enough grey paper.
I guess there just isn't quite a demand.

I always think it's fun to see artist sketches.
So in the assumption you do too, i'll show you my sketch.

P.S. My sketches aren't always this crude. Or small.
I just wanted to show it because after I was done
I thought it was crazy that I was working with so little.

In The Mail : Part Two

I recently did four spot illustrations for the new issue of Good Magazine.

The issue is all about water.

They turned out to be nice little pieces.
Thanks to Brian Rea for the awesome art direction.
Here's an extra one for fun:

In The Mail : Part One

I love getting stuff in the mail.
I still get a thrill from it that email just can't give.
So I was especially excited when I got this in the mail earlier this week.

I had been anticipating it, but it was still incredibly exciting.
So my first publication is the cover of a well respected magazine
which means it's only downhill from here... Hopefully not.

Viv Magazine

I recently did a job for Viv Magazine, an online luxury women's magazine.
The article was about pets and how they can be both good and bad.
I did eight spots and a full page on four different animals: Dogs, Cats, Birds, and Fish.

I actually did two sketches for the full page and they went with the cat and dog holding hands.

I liked the sketch for the second so much that I decided to finish it. I'm glad I did.

It was fun and easy assignment. I was excited at how it looked in the magazine.
I think online magazines are a pretty interesting use of trying to bridge an old communication tool utilizing new technology.
